DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's basketball team recently continued its on-going mission of impacting the surrounding community, by participating in the 13th-Annual Walk with Sunshine in Maumee, Ohio.
Thee Walk with Sunshine helped to raise funds used for providing residential, vocational and family support services to over 1,000 people with developmental disabilities. The event had over 1,400 participants, marking its highest total.
Members of the DC men's basketball team pushed wheel chairs along the three-mile walk, along with setting up tables and chairs, placing signs along the path and distributing water to the participants.
The event had a lasting impact on the DC student-athletes who participated, as sophomore Logan Wolfum stated, "It really brought joy to me just to see the smiles that we put into the participants' hearts."
Junior Anthony Brown added, "The walk was very gratifying and uplifting. I am sure this experience will stick with us for the rest of our lives."
The act of service was nothing new for student-athletes at Defiance College, as during the 2009-2010 academic year alone, the DC athletics program contributed nearly 2,400 hours of service.
