PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - Defiance College baseball picked up two wins during their four-game visit with the Alice Lloyd Eagles on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, the Jackets fell 12-1 before earning a 6-5 win and took the first game 9-3 on Tuesday before a dramatic 6-2 loss in the series finale.
After a one-side affair to open the series, the Yellow Jackets bounced back with 6-5 victory on Monday evening. Defiance lost a 5-0 lead but received five strong innings of relief from Andy Yoder to keep the Eagles at bay for the remainder of the game. Garret Long delivered the game-winning hit during the fourth inning that broke a 5-5 tie.
During Tuesday's action, Gunner Gregg earned his first collegiate win on the mound after five one-run frames to start the opening contest of the game. Gregg fanned six hitters over five innings before Blake Bowman closed down the last two innings on the hill. DC employed a five-run first inning to give Gregg immediate run support, which included a lead-off home run by Gregg serving as the team's leadoff hitter. Jacob Hild added a two-run double before Alex Rodriguez III and Elisa Marquez added RBIs to close out the frame. Brady Fallon also smacked a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the seventh inning to boost the DC lead. Game 2 was a tight affair with Donovan Armstrong and Aiden Behrman holding the Eagles to two runs across the first six innings. Jacob Hild provided a two-run single in the fifth frame on his way to going 3-for-3 in the series finale. However, the Eagles' Cory Jefferson slugged a one-out, walk-off grand slam to award Alice Lloyd a 6-2 victory.
