Volleyball Beaten by Hanover (Ind.)

Defiance (6-16, 1-2 HCAC) and Hanover (14-7, 4-0 HCAC) played a heavily contested first set, but it was the Yellow Jackets that prevailed by the score of 26-24 to grab the early 1-0 match lead. The Panthers then rallied and won the next three sets beginning with a 25-20 victory in set two to tie the match at a set a piece. Hanover then took control with victories in the third and fourth sets, 25-13 and 25-10, to go on to the 3-1 match win and remain unbeaten in conference play.
Freshman Marissa Windau (Castalia/Margaretta) led the offensive attack for Defiance with 10 kills. Sophomore Meredith Shank (Maumee/Springfield) was second with nine kills and junior Hope Neargarder (Union City/Mississinawa Valley) was third with six kills. Junior Ari Mahaffey (Porter, Ind./Chesterton) had a match-high 28 assists and junior Dia Jackson (Detroit, Mich./Canton) had a team-high four service aces.
Defensively, senior Rebecca Kain (Orland, Ind./Pairie Heights) led the way with 17 digs. Jackson and Mahaffey both finished in double figures in digs with 11 each.
DC will return home to host Manchester (Ind.) University on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in a HCAC contest at the Karl H. Weaner Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
