DC Lone Undefeated HCAC Team with Victory Over Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Defiance College traveled to Franklin College for the biggest matchup of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season to date.
DC (14-10, 5-0 HCAC) and Franklin (15-8, 5-1 HCAC) both entered undefeated in conference play and only the Yellow Jackets left unscathed. DC won in straight sets, 3-0.
The away squad won 25-15, 25-19, 25-23.
DC's offense had Franklin on its heels all night. The Yellow Jackets hit for a .221 hitting percentage for the match. Franklin's defense had not surrender a hitting percentage over .200 against an HCAC opponent until the matchup with the Yellow Jackets.
Senior Alicia Kalik (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) led the way for the Yellow Jackets. She put up 30 assists, nine digs, and six kills.
Bree Anderson (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll) continues her hot streak for DC. With her 15 kills, Anderson has now reached double figures in kills in four straight matches.
Freshman Meredith Shank (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield) also had a big night for the Yellow Jackets. She ended the three sets with 10 kills.
Kalik, Anderson, and Shank all hit over .300% in the match. They hit .455%, .306%, and .357%, respectively.
Rebecca Kain (Orland, Ind. / Prairie Heights) continues to lead the back row with another solid game for the Yellow Jackets. She had 19 digs on the night.
Jaidyn Patridge (Toledo, Ohio / Springfield) added eight digs while Shank and Makayla Dennis (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) contributed with seven apiece.
DC also put up five aces on the night. Shank and Dennis had two each and Patridge had the other.
The Yellow Jackets will face another tough HCAC opponent on Sunday when they welcome in Hanover. First serve is set for 1 pm.
