Kalik grabs DC’s second HCAC’s Offensive Player of the Week
GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second time in her career, junior Alicia Kalik has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the second time in her career, junior Alicia Kalik has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. The South Lyon, Michigan native was given the honor, after her strong week of play helped the Jackets to a 2-1 record.
Kalik's best performance from the week came in the matchup with Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg on Tuesday, September 10. The junior helped DC snap an eight-game losing skid to the Student Princes by tallying a career-high 60 assists, along with 12 digs and three kills in the 3-2 victory.
During the weekend action, the setter continued her solid play with 36 assists in the five-set loss to Hiram and then put up 46 assists and an impressive 23 digs in a 3-1 victory over Baldwin-Wallace. Kalik is currently leading the HCAC with 490 assists (10.21 per set) on the 2013 campaign and sits at 2,227 for her career. Kalik is quickly approaching Megan Thigpen's DC career record of 2,667.
With Kalik's offensive player of the week selection, DC now has two of the first three winners of the honor in the HCAC. Senior Chelsea Ludeman also captured the title after her performance during the season-opening weekend.
The Purple and Gold Volleyball team will rest up this week before its gets back in action on Saturday, September 21. Defiance will travel to Alliance, Ohio for a tri-match featuring the Wilmington Quakers at 3 pm and the Mount Union Purple Raiders at 5 pm.
