MARIETTA, Ohio – Defiance College positioned itself for a shot at its second tournament championship of the year with a pair of wins on Friday at the Marietta Tournament. DC will enter Saturday as one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the round-robin event.
The Yellow Jackets got the weekend started with a 30-28, 25-20, 25-22 victory against Carlow. Sara Porter fueled the defense with 23 digs, while Danyel Lipps paced the offensive attack with 12 kills.
DC then won for the seventh time in the last eight matches by handing Kenyon a 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 defeat. Lipps led the way once again with 14 kills and a .323 hitting percentage and Marlea Rolander tacked on nine kills with a .333 percentage. Porter shined on defense in the nightcap as well, scooping up 16 digs.
Defiance moves to 9-4 with the two wins and will play Ohio Valley on Saturday at 11:30 am, before facing Marietta at 1:00 pm in a potential championship clash.
