Defiance Notches Win Over Ohio Wesleyan at Hornet Invite
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Defiance College picked up its first win of the young 2008 season on Saturday, scoring a 3-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan in its first match of the day.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Defiance College picked up its first win of the young 2008 season on Saturday, scoring a 3-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan in its first match of the day. The Jackets would later fall in four sets to Baldwin-Wallace to close out the season-opening Kalamazoo Hornet Invitational.
DC rebounded from a 25-21 loss in the opening set against OWU to sweep the next three in convincing fashion. The Jackets took 25-18, 25-9 and 26-24 victories to secure the 3-1 match win.
Marlea Rolander tattered the Bishops for 13 kills in 24 swings without an error and Danyel Lipps added nine kills and 22 digs.
The Jackets had the tables turned on them in the second match of the afternoon, as they won the first set before seeing Baldwin-Wallace take the 18-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-9 victory.
Lipps and Kristen Nicely paced the attack with nine kills each, while Heather Bradshaw added 15 digs.
Defiance posted a 1-3 record at the Hornet Invite and will now gear up for the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament next weekend. DC is slated to play Oberlin at 6:00 pm and OWU at 8:00 pm on Friday, Sep. 5.
