Track and Field competes at HCAC Championships, Brown named Men's Newcomer of the Year
Franklin, Ind. - Defiance College track and field finished their season this weekend at the HCAC Championships hosted by Franklin College. Both the men and women placed 10th.
At the event, freshman Marlon Brown was named the Men's Newcomer of the Year.
Marlon Brown won the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.36 seconds and earned a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.61 seconds.
Ron Scott placed 13th in shot put with a mark of 11.35 meters and placed 18th in the discus with a throw of 28.33 meters. He rounded out his performance by recording a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 24.73 meters.
Ja'Qway Janvier placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.74 seconds. Gavin Maratea recorded a new personal best in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.57 seconds.
Isaac Miler placed 10th in the long jump with a mark of 6.13 meters. Landon Sensmeier recorded two new personal bests at the meet. He ran the 100 meter dash in 12.65 seconds and had a new best mark of 24.87 meters in the javelin throw. The 4x100 meter relay team of Janiver, Brown, Maratea, and Miler finished seventh with a time of 43.90 seconds.
Lexi Coward set a new personal best in the 800 meter run with a time of 3:15.54. That earned her a 16th place finish. Shanti Elkins ran the 200 meter dash in 27.57 seconds.
Hailei Haynes placed seventh in the 100 meter dash and set a new personal best time of 13.06 seconds. Lisa-Maria Markau placed second in the 100 meter dash and third in the 200 meter dash and set new personal bests in both. She ran the 100 in 12.38 seconds and the 200 in 26.01 seconds.
Shyla Pemberton ran the 200 meter dash in 27.62 seconds and placed ninth in the event. Brianna Snider recorded a new best in the javelin with a throw of 22.96 meters.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Markau, Elkins, Haynes, and Pemberton finished second with a time of 49.87 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay team of Markau, Pemberton, Snider, and Coward completed it in a time of 4:58.34.
