TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - This weekend the Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The Yellow Jackets placed 10th at the competition. Rose-Hulman, Manchester, and Hanover were the top three teams.
"We kept fighting each event despite being small. Every lady competed super hard and Shi and Lisa got some big points for us," said Defiance head coach Nathan Christianson.
The Yellow Jackets earned points from sixth-place finishes in 100-meters from Lisa Markau, the 110-meter hurdles from Shi'Nique Lawrence, and the 4x100 relay team. The relay team consisted of Maraku, Deleita Powell, Destiny Oshodin, and Lawrence and ran their best time of the season.
"Lisa continues to get better at these championship meets and next year will be a huge year for her. Shi did some big things as a freshman and we expect her to contribute a lot next season." Christianson said.
Lawrence placed ninth in the 100-meters, just missing the cut to advance to the finals.
"I'm really proud of these ladies for continuing to fight each week," said Christianson. "We are excited for next year and we return a solid crew. We are building a strong recruiting class and we have some high expectations for next year.
