Williams Wins Discus and Hammer at Twilight Invitational

As a team, the Yellow Jackets finished with 74 points and placed sixth overall of 10 teams. Host school Rose-Hulman won the meet with 157 points and was followed by Greenville (Ill.) College in second place with 111.5 points. Hanover (Ind.) College was third with 109 points.
Williams captured both the discus and the hammer throws to pace the DC throwers. Williams posted a winning mark of 126' 7.00" in the discus and 143' 2.00" in the hammer.
Junior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) finished as runner-up in the discus behind Williams with a mark of 124' 6.00" and senior Katie Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-LaSalle) also placed in the top-10 in the event following a best toss of 102' 6.00" which was good enough for sixth place. Placing just outside the top-10 were junior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) and freshman Madi Bowman (Eaton) who took 11th and 12th place respectively. Santen posted a mark of 91' 2.00" and Bowman turned in a throw of 87' 5.00".
Severall athletes also competed in the hammer with Williams, including three who placed in the top-10. Senior Alexis Walker (Ft. Myers, Fla./Ft. Myers) landed in third place after a best throw of 139' 11.00". Wadelich continued her impressive efforts in the field events by finishing fifth overall after a mark of 135' 5.00" and Santen was 10th at 121' 7.00". Bowman placed just behind Santen in the 11th spot (120' 7.00") and Tilman was 16th (107' 3.00").
Santen led all Defiance competitors in the shot put by finishing third overall following a distance of 37' 1.25". Along with Santen, the Jackets claimed sixth through eighth place with Waidelich placing sixth (35' 4.50"), Tilman was seventh (33' 5.25") and Walker was eighth (33' 5.25").
The Yellow Jackets completed the list of standout performances in the field events with three individuals finishing in the top-10 in the javelin led by Santen who was fourth overall at a distance of 95' 10.00". Senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) finished right behind in fifth place (89' 4.00) and Waidelich was sixth with a launch of 85' 2.00".
The top finishes in the running events were turned in by junior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) who placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.79 seconds. She went on to duplicate her seventh-place showing in the 200-meter dash where she ran a time of 27.82 seconds.
Defiance will travel to Anderson, Ind. next weekend, April 28-29, for the annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Anderson University. The first day of competition begins at 1 p.m. on Friday.
