Women Throwers Finish Strong at Defiance Invitational

DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets hosted their first home meet of the season and placed fifth in the Defiance Invitational at the George M. Smart Center.
Junior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) posted the top overall finish for the DC women in the running events with a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter dash. She crossed the finish line with a time of 28.34 seconds.
In the field events, DC had four members finish in the top-20 in the shot put, and three whom competed in the finals. Junior Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) recorded the best overall finish with a second-place showing following a throw of 35' 10.00". Senior Katie Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) clinched third place with a throw of 35' 4.75" and jumior Brooke Waidelich (Pettiville) finished eighth with a mark of 33' 6.50". In addition, freshman Madi Bowman (Eaton) finished 17th and had a best throw of 29' 2.50".
The women also had a strong showing in the weight throw. They had five finish in the top-10 and six overall place in the top-20. Senior Alexis Walker (Ft. Myers, Fla./Ft. Myers) took the top spot with a second-place finish with a toss of 47' 7.25". Santen took third and had a throw of 47' 1.75". Waidelich came in fifth place with a throw of 44' 8.75" and junior Hannah Williams (Swanton) was sixth following a mark of 43' 6.50". Tilman and Bowman rounded out the DC competitors and finished ninth and 14th respectively with distances of 42' 3.50" and 37' 3.00".
The DC women's track team returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 4) when it travels to Ada, Ohio to compete in the Ohio Northern University Invitational. The meet begins with the field events at 11 a.m. The track events are scheduled to start at noon.
