Miller Shatters Steeplechase Record at HCAC Championships
BLUFDFTON, OHIO - The Defiance College women's track team traveled to Bluffton University to compete in day one of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and totaled 30 points for third place.
BLUFDFTON, OHIO - The Defiance College women's track team traveled to Bluffton University to compete in day one of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships and totaled 30 points for third place.
The highlight of the first day of competition was turned in by junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) who captured the 3000-meter steeplechase in a HCAC and school-record time of 11:09.96. Miller, who previously owned the school record in the event, bettered her time by over 10 seconds (11:20.11). Miller first broke the record earlier this season at the All-Ohio Championships.
Another top finish for the DC women came in the field events where sophomore Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) finished third in the dicus throw after recording a toss of 120' 5.00". Joining Waidelich in the event was sophomore Hannah Williams (Swanton) who followed closely behind in fifth place with a mark of 118' 2.00". Junior Alexis Walker (Fort Meyers, Fla./Fort Meyers) claimed eighth place with a distance of 115' 7.00" and senior Nicole Walls (Carleton, Mich./Airport) was 19th at 94 '5.00".
Sophomore Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) recorded a top-five finish in the shot following a heave of 37' 4.50". Junior Katie Tillman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) also competed in the event and finished 11th with a mark of 34' 5.00". Walker and Waidelich rounded out the DC competitors with 13th and 15th-place finishes, respectively, with distances of 33' 9.50" and 32' 2.00".
The Yellow Jacket women will wrap-up the HCAC Championships tomorrow (Saturday, April 30) with the final day of competition. Events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Bluffton.
