Miller Breaks Steeplechase Record at All-Ohio
DELAWARE, OHIO -- Junior Emie Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) improved upon her own school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase to lead the Defiance College women's track & field team at the annual All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
DELAWARE, OHIO -- Junior Emie Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) improved upon her own school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase to lead the Defiance College women's track & field team at the annual All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The Yellow Jackets posted a team score of eight points to finish in a tie for 16th of 19 teams.
Miller posted a mark of 11:20.11 in the steeplechase and placed second overall in the event. Her time bettered her previous all-time mark by over six seconds (11:26.19) which set set during the 2014 outdoor season.
In field events, sophomore Hannah Williams (Swanton) recorded a ninth-place showing in the discus with a toss of 122' 0.00".
Junior Alexis Walker (Fort Meyers, Fla./Fort Meyers) finished 10th in the shot put with a distance of 36' 9.50". She also finished 10th in the hammer throw with a best mark of 137' 0.00". Joining Walker in the shot put was sophomore Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) and junior Katie Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) who placed 15th and 18th respectively with throws of 35' 8.75" and 34' 11.25".
Junior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) finished 11th in the javelin throw with a heave of 94' 4.00". In addition, Santen competed in the same event and came in just behind Heeter in 12th place with a toss of 93' 9.00".
Rounding out the top-20 performances in the field events was senior Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center) who finished 20th in the triple jump with a leap of 31' 9.50".
The women's track team will next compete at the Ohio Northern University Invitational next Saturday, Apr. 23 in Ada, Ohio.
