Women's Track Take Top Three In Javelin at Dick Small Invitational
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College women's track team hosted the Dick Small outdoor track and field meet and finished fifth with a team score of 72 points.
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College women's track team hosted the Dick Small outdoor track and field meet and finished fifth with a team score of 72 points.
Top finishers in the running events included junior Kayla Miller (Wadsworth) who finished 12th in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line in a time of 1:12.07.
Sophomore Aaron Textor (Swanton) competed in the women's 800-meter run and finished 10th in a time of 2:43.88.
Senior Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center) competed in three events on the day which included the 200-meter dash, the triple jump and the long jump. In the 200 dash, she finished 18th with a time of 29.37 seconds. Weaks then followed with a fifth-place showing in the triple jump finals with a leap of 30' 5.00". In the long jump event, Weaks finished third overall with a distance of 15' 8.75".
Junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind./Jay County) completed the list of top finishers in the running events with a second-place effort in the 5000-meter run posting a time of 18:23.50.
In field events, the highlight of the day was in the javelin as the Yellow Jackets claimed the top three positions with sophomore Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers) captured the event with a winning throw of 96' 4.00". Junior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) was second with a mark of 95' 2.00" and sophomore Brook Waidelich (Pettisville) was third at 71' 5.00".
The Yellow Jacket women also recorded high marks in the shot put with three individuals placing in the top-five led by junior Kaite Tilman (Miami Springs, Fla./Immaculata-LaSalle) who placed second with a distance of 35' 10.50". Fellow junior Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Meyers) was third with a mark of 35' 2.00" and Santen finished fifth after recording a distance of 34' 8.50". In addition, Waidelich had a toss of 33' 4.50" and placed eighth overall.
In the women's hammer throw, Waidelich had the top overall finish for DC of ninth place with a toss of 123' 6.00". Following closely behind and taking 11th place was senior teammate Nicole Walls (Carleton, Mich./Airport) who recorded a mark of 118' 4.00". In addition, sophomore Hannah Williams (Swanton) finished 13th (114' 2.00") and Walker was 14th (112' 2.00"). Rounding out the DC competitors in the event was Santen who finished 17th with a distance of 106' 1.00".
Defiance also had two individuals finish in the top-five in the discus event in Waidelich and Williams. Waidelich recorded a best effort of 125' 7.00" to place third overall, while Williams finished fourth with a throw of 118' 11.00". Other Yellow Jacket competitors included Walls who finished 12th with a throw of 92' 2.00". Tillman finished 17th overall with a throw of 74' 6.00" and Heeter finished 18th with a throw of 71' 5.00".
Defiance will be back in action on Saturday, April 9 when the Jackets travel to Huntington, Ind for the Huntington (Ind.) University Invitational. The meet is scheduled to beign at noon.
