Women Finish HCAC Championships In Sixth Place
LEXINGTON, KY. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team traveled to Lexington, Ky. to compete at Transylvania (Ky.) University for the final day of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and finished in sixth place with a two-day team score of 59 points.

Freshman Hannah Williams (Swanton) produced another top performance in the throwing events, as she earned the title of HCAC Champion in the discus. Williams sailed the discus 125' 6" on her final attempt in order to finish first overall. Fellow Yellow Jacket freshmen Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville) and Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill. /Downers Grove North) finished close behind Williams with distances of 109' 2" and 107' 5", respectively.
Sophomore Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla. /Fort Myers) finished fourth, after launching the shot a distance of 36' 10.25". Santen followed close behind with a distance of 36' 1.5", finishing in sixth overall.
Junior Waverly Weaks (Liberty Center) rounded out the scoring in the field events as she placed fourth in the long jump with a final leap of 15' 8.75".
In the running events, freshman Leah Anderson (Hicksville) placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles after posting a time of 1:23.42. Junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. /Jay County) crossed the line seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:12.81.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, May 8 when they travel to Naperville, Ill. for the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College. The meet start time is yet to be determined.
