Yellow Jackets Compete at Trine (Ind.)
ANGOLA, IND. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team traveled to Angola, Ind. to Trine (Ind.) University to compete in the unscored Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic and produced many positive individual results.
ANGOLA, IND. – The Defiance College women's track and field team traveled to Angola, Ind. to Trine (Ind.) University to compete in the unscored Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic and produced many positive individual results.
Defiance was led by junior Eme Miller (Portland, Ind. /Jay County) who finished first in the one-mile run. Miller crossed the line at the 5:21.31 minute mark, which breaks the school record set by Miller last year. Freshman Courtney Kunk (St. Henry) and senior Kelsey Bowling (Sidney/Houston) finished close behind Miller, crossing at the 5:49.21 and 6:06.95 minute marks, respectively.
Freshman Aaron Textor (Swanton) finished seventh in the 3000-meter run with a time of 12:10.81. Fellow Yellow Jacket senior Marissa Bussard (Canal Winchester/Bloom-Carroll) finished close behind, crossing the line in 12:55.68.
Freshman Leah Anderson (Hicksville) produced top-ten finishes in the 60-meter hurdles, 400-meter run and long jump. Anderson finished seventh in the hurdles event while posting a time of 10.49 seconds. She finished seventh in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:05.61. Her efforts in long jump gave her a fifth place finish, while jumping a distance of 4.62 meters.
The Yellow Jacket throwers, led by sophomore Alexis Walker (Fort Myers, Fla. /Fort Myers) showed up in full force with three Yellow Jackets placing in the top ten. Walker finished sixth in shot put with a distance of 10.51 meters. She then turned around and threw the weight a distance of 12.63 meters to take home another sixth place finish. Freshman Cassidy Santen (Woodridge, Ill. /Downers Grove North) finished eighth in shot with a distance of 10.34 meters and junior Nicole Walls (Carleton, Mich. /Airport) finished seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 12.16 meters.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Granville to compete in the All-Ohio Multi-Event Meet and to Ada to compete at Ohio Northern University. The ONU meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. while All-Ohio is still to be determined.
