Lady Jacket Jumpers Lead at Manchester Invite
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Senior Kate Borer and freshman Waverly Weaks combined to record four top-10 finishes on Saturday, April 20 at the Manchester Invitational.
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Senior Kate Borer and freshman Waverly Weaks combined to record four top-10 finishes on Saturday, April 20 at the Manchester Invitational. It was solid preparation for the team, as it gets set for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in one week.
For Borer, she scored her best mark in the pole vault by clearing 3.00 meters for third overall. The Fayette, Ohio native then performed well in the triple jump with a fifth-place distance of 9.46 m. Lastly, the fourth-year track member chalked up a distance of 4.33 m in the long jump to place tenth. In the same event, Weaks shined by grabbing second overall at 4.99 m. The finish was the highest by any female DC athlete at the competition.
Another solid finish came from the Purple and Gold field athlete group, as freshman Kim Maro tossed the javelin 30.06 meter to notch fourth place.
On the track, sophomore Sadie Daeger competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and clocked in a sixth-place time of 13:18.16. In team events, the Yellow Jackets quartet of junior Erin Rhodes and freshmen Jessie Bell, Ryley Frost and Sierra Stevens combined to run a 54.51 in the 4x100-meter relay that gave them fifth overall.
Next weekend the Defiance College track and field squad will travel back to North Manchester where the Spartans are hosting the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Action will kick-off at 12 p.m.
