Defiance Track and Field Competes at Trine Invitational
ANGOLA, Ind. – A handful of Defiance College track and field athletes made their second trip of the season to Angola, Ind. on Saturday to compete in the Trine Invitational.
ANGOLA, Ind. – A handful of Defiance College track and field athletes made their second trip of the season to Angola, Ind. on Saturday to compete in the Trine Invitational. Both the men's and women's teams finished fifth at the meet, garnering 16.5 and 31 points respectively.
Jordan Weber and Nick Goins teamed up to carry the men's team with some strong performances. Weber ran the 55-meter hurdles in 8.39 seconds for a third-place finish at the meet and the sixth-best time in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this season. He also placed seventh at the meet in the triple jump with a leap of 11.84 meters, just behind Goins, who posted a mark of 11.86 meters to move into the top-13 in the conference standings. Goins also placed sixth in the long jump, clearing 5.95 meters for the eighth-best performance in the HCAC this season.
Josh Beaverson posted a new personal record in the shot put with a mark of 13.30 meters, ranking sixth in the conference this season and eighth in school history.
On the women's side, Erika DeBos placed second in the high jump, clearing 1.47 meters to move into sixth place in the conference standings. Emily Cole posted her best pole vaulting performance of the season with a fourth-place mark of 2.65 meters. Cole's performance ranks seventh in the HCAC this season.
The DC track and field team will compete in the first-annual HCAC Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Anderson University. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
