Women’s Track and Field Places Third at Polar Bear Invitational
ADA, Ohio – The women’s track and field team garnered 113 points and a third-place finish at Ohio Northern University’s Polar Bear Invitational on Saturday.
ADA, Ohio – The women's track and field team garnered 113 points and a third-place finish at Ohio Northern University's Polar Bear Invitational on Saturday. Marlea Rolander won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds, giving her the best 55-meter hurdle performance in the HCAC this season.
The junior hurdler also took fourth place in the 200-meter dash, just behind DC's Ashlyn Howell, who placed third at the meet and eighth in the HCAC this season with a time of 28.76 seconds. Howell was even more impressive in the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.99 seconds for the second-best time in the conference this year.
In distance events, Kaitlin Switzer placed fourth in the one-mile run with a time of 5:48.64 to move into fourth place in the conference, while Ellen Stryffeler finished the 3,000-meter run in 11:24.25, taking third at the meet and fourth in the HCAC rankings.
Pole vaulters, Katie Heitkamp and Emily Cole, placed first and second at the meet, clearing 2.75 and 2.60 meters respectively.
The women's track and field team will travel to Otterbein, Ohio next Saturday, February 12, to compete in the All-Ohio Championships. The meet is set to begin at noon.
