ANGOLA, Ind. – The women's track and field team earned 140 points at the Trine Invitational on Friday, placing second in the eight-team field. Katie Heitkamp cleared 2.90 meters in the pole vault, tying Emily Cole and Kaitlyn Sandercock at the top of Defiance's all-time record book.
Heitkamp added a half-inch onto the personal-best mark she set last week, and will need to add just another quarter-inch to claim DC's individual pole vaulting title outright.
Classmate, Ashlyn Howell, had a nice meet for DC in the jumping events, clearing 9.81 meters to claim first place in the triple jump, and finishing second in the long jump with a leap of 4.59 meters to move into sixth on DC's top-ten performances list.
Freshmen jumpers Kali George and Addie Henricks pushed Howell with third and fourth-place finishes in the long jump respectively. Henricks also took first place at the meet in the high jump, clearing 1.52 meters, while George posted a mark of 9.50 meters in the triple jump to claim the eighth-best triple jump performance in program history.
Other top performers included Ellen Stryffeler, who placed second in the one-mile run and improved her previous personal-record in the event by more than 29 seconds, and Tiana Bohanon, who finished the 400-meter dash in 65.45 seconds for a second-place finish and a sixth-place spot in the school record books.
The women's track and field team will hit the track again on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Ohio Northern University's Polar Bear Invitational. The meet is scheduled to run from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m.
