Women’s Track Runs Well at Taylor Invitational
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The DC women’s track and field team had one of their best meets of the season on Saturday, April 24, at the Taylor Invitational.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The DC women's track and field team had one of their best meets of the season on Saturday, April 24, at the Taylor Invitational. The sprinters led the way for the Jackets, posting eight HCAC top-ten performances on the day.
Kristin Goldstein ran her best 100-meter dash of the season (13.11) to place second in the HCAC, while Ashlyn Howell finished a half-step behind, coming in at 13.17 to rank third in the conference and ninth in school history.
The speedy duo showed up big in the 200-meter dash as well, with Howell coming in at 27.48 to rank third in the HCAC this season, and Goldstein finishing in 28.13 to move up to the seventh-place spot in the conference.
Shavonda Price ran her first 400-meter dash for the Jackets, and posted the second-fastest time in the HCAC this season (1:02.91), which ranks as the sixth-fastest time in school history. Price's strong meet continued with a second-place finish in the javelin throw. Her toss of 111-06.00 feet is the furthest throw in the conference this season.
Marlea Rolander had a strong showing in the hurdles. Rolander placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, coming in at 15.39 to rank second in the conference this year, and finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.39 move into seventh in the HCAC.
The Defiance College track and field team will return to action on Friday, April 30, when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to take part in the HCAC Championships. The two-day meet is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
