Howell Honored as HCAC’s Track Athlete of the Week
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Ashlyn Howell was given HCAC Female Track Athlete-of-the-Week honors for the week ending April 4, after leading Defiance College to a second-place finish at the Yellow Jacket Open on Friday, April 2.
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Ashlyn Howell was given HCAC Female Track Athlete-of-the-Week honors for the week ending April 4, after leading Defiance College to a second-place finish at the Yellow Jacket Open on Friday, April 2.
Howell took second place at the meet in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.76, ranking her second in the conference for the 2010 outdoor season and eighth all-time at Defiance College. Howell was also one of four Jackets to team up in DC's first-place showing in the 4x100-meter relay.
The freshman runner has made a tremendous impact during her first year with the program. In addition to the 400-meter dash, Howell has posted the fifth-best 200-meter dash time, and the fourth-best triple jump performance in the HCAC this season.
As a member of DC's indoor track and field team during the winter, Howell set a new school record in the triple jump, posting an All-Ohio qualifying jump of 34-11.29 feet. Howell was also one of four DC athletes named to the HCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Defiance College track and field team will return to action on Saturday, April 10, when it heads to Michigan to take part in the Adrian Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
