Howell Leads DC to Fourth Place at Hoosier-Buckeye Meet
Terre Haute, Ind. – Ashlyn Howell’s school-record triple jump highlighted the DC women’s track and field team’s fourth-place finish at the Hoosier-Buckeye Meet on Saturday.
Terre Haute, Ind. – Ashlyn Howell's school-record triple jump highlighted the DC women's track and field team's fourth-place finish at the Hoosier-Buckeye Meet on Saturday. The team garnered 66 points on the day, ranking ahead of five HCAC rivals.
Howell placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 33-04.50 to top the previous school record in the event by half of an inch. The freshman also posted a fifth-place finish in both the 200 meter dash (28.62) and the 55 meter dash (7.94).
DC vaulters Kaite Heitkamp, Emily Cole and Kaitlyn Sandercock finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the pole vault. Heitkamp's clearance of 8-11.75 ranks the freshman vaulter fifth all-time on DC's top-ten performances list.
In Sprints, Marlea Rolander placed second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.06 seconds, while Kristin Goldstein took second place in the 55 meter dash, crossing the line in 7.75 seconds.
Kaitlin Switzer had an impressive showing in the 5000 meter run, completing the race in 19:42.54 to rank second on DC's top-ten performances list. Sophomore runner Ellen Stryfeller finished the race in 20:10.48 to take sixth-place in the event and rank fourth-best in the DC record books.
The track and field team will resume competition on Saturday, February 27, when they run at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
