Women’s Track and Field Competes at Taylor Invitational
UPLAND, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team competed in the Taylor Invitational on Saturday, February 6.
UPLAND, Ind. – The Defiance College women's track and field team competed in the Taylor Invitational on Saturday, February 6. The Jackets had numerous strong performances highlighted by a school-record one mile run by Kaitlin Switzer.
Courtney Swabb made her way onto the DC record books with a time of 1:55.56 in the 600 meter run to rank fourth all-time at Defiance. Erika DeBos' time of 3:37.70 in the 1,000 meter run gives the freshman the fourth fastest time by a DC runner in the event.
In the one mile run, Kaitlin Switzer improved her own school record, crossing the line in 5:36.06 for a sixth-place finish at the meet. Ellen Stryfeller had a strong showing in the 3,000 meter run, placing ninth at the meet with a time of 11:35.63.
Kaitlin Sandercock matched her personal best in pole vaulting, clearing a height of 2.75 meters to take eighth place in the event. Ashyln Howell had the best showing of the DC jumpers, recording a length of 9.66 meters in the triple jump for a sixth-place finish at the meet and a seventh-place ranking on the top-ten performances list.
The track and field team will return to action on Saturday, February 13, when they compete in the All-Ohio Championships in Otterbein, Ohio. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
