School Records Fall at Indiana Wesleyan Invitational
MARION, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s indoor track and field team participated in the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, January 30.
MARION, Ind. – The Defiance College women's indoor track and field team participated in the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, January 30. The Yellow Jackets set two school records and had eight top-ten performances in the meet, which did not record team scores.
The women's mid-distance runners had a strong showing in the meet. Erika DeBos finished the 600 meter run in 1:55.26, which puts the freshman runner third in DC's all-time record book. Mindy DeLong and Kelly Neff came in right behind her with times of 1:55.58 and 1:55.93 respectively.
Kaitlin Switzer improved on her own school record in the 3000 meter run, finishing the race in 11:11.22. Freshman runner Ellen Stryfeller finished right behind Switzer, crossing the line in 11:42.95, which makes her the third fastest Yellow Jacket to finish 3000 meter run.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Erika DeBos, Kelly Neff, Mindy DeLong and Chelsea Sites set a new Defiance record, finishing in 11:35.14 to place fourth in the meet. The 1,600 meter relay team of Katie Heitkamp, Ashlyn Howell, Courtney Swabb and Kristen Goldstein ran a top-ten time of 4:40.49.
In pole vaulting, Kaitlin Sandercock cleared a height of 8-10.25 to place tenth at the meet and Katie Heitkamp's height of 8-04.25 places her 6th all-time on DC's top-ten list.
The track team is scheduled to return to action on February 6, when they compete in the Taylor Invitational in Upland, Ind. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
