Defiance Falls to Transylvania
LEXINGTON, KY. -- Sophomores Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and Cayla Walker (Archbold) both captured wins in their respective singles matches to score the only team points for the Defiance College women's tennis team as the Yellow Jackets dropped a 7-2 decision against Transylvania (Ky.) University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play in Lexington, Ky.

University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play in Lexington, Ky.
Transylvania (5-1, 4-1 HCAC) began the day by sweeping the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead. DC duo of Hesterman and sophomore Danielle Vance (Defiance) won two games in their matchup, but lost the overall match, 8-2.
In singles action, Hesterman came out as the winner in her first singles matchup winning by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Walker captured the first set of her fifth singles match in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6) and then also won the second set, 6-4, for the overall match win.
Junior Courtney Alexander (Bristolville/Bristol) won a game in the first set of her match at third singles (6-1 and 6-0) and senior Colby Heeter (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) won a game in each set at fourth singles (6-1 and 6-1).
Junior Mackenzie Combs (Milford Center/Fairbanks) also captured a pair of games in the second set of her sixth-singles match, but lost by the overall scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
The Pioneers won the remaining four singles matches to post the 7-2 overall victory.
Defiance is scheduled to host Earlham (Ind.) College on Wednesday, Sept. 28 in a HCAC matchup at the Dix Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
