Yellow Jackets Hook the Fighting Muskies
NEW CONCORD, OHIO – The Defiance College women’s tennis team traveled to New Concord, Ohio to face Muskingum University in non-conference play and hooked the Fighting Muskies by a match score of 8-1.
NEW CONCORD, OHIO – The Defiance College women's tennis team traveled to New Concord, Ohio to face Muskingum University in non-conference play and hooked the Fighting Muskies by a match score of 8-1.
Defiance (4-9) started the match by defeating Muskingum (0-3) in all three doubles matches. The first doubles team of senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold) and the second doubles team senior Haley Kuhlman (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Danielle Vance (Defiance) won against their opponents by match scores of 8-0. The third doubles spot was forfeited by the Muskies to give Defiance the 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, Hesterman was at the second spot and defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Kuhlman and Vance played third and fourth respectively and both walked away with victories by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1. The final two points came from forfeits in the fifth and sixth singles spots to finalize the match score 8-1 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
Defiance will return to action on Friday Oct. 9 when they travel to Richmond, Ind. to face Indiana University-East in non-conference play. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
