Yellow Jackets Fall to the Fightin' Engineers

DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College women's tennis team hosted Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman (Ind.) and fell to the Fightin' Engineers by a match score of 8-1.
Defiance (3-7, 1-4 HCAC) had the only win for the afternoon in the first doubles team of senior Savannah Marquez (Porterville, Calif. /Porterville) and freshman Hannah Hesterman (Archbold). The duo forced the Engineers (4-4, 3-3 HCAC) to a tie-break to decide the winner and ended ahead by a score of 9-8 (7-5).
In singles play, Hesterman continues to be an anchor for the Yellow Jackets at the second singles spot. Even though she came up short, she had the closest match of the afternoon, forcing her opponent to a third set tie-break decision (6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3). Senior Nicole Tank (Lincoln Park, Mich. /Roosevelt) had the second closest singles match, playing the fourth spot. Tank fell by an overall match score of 6-3, 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Monday Sept. 28 when they host Heidelberg University in non-conference action. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
