DC Defeats HCAC Rival Bluffton for Second Straight Season
BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket women’s tennis team recorded its first victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University.
BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team recorded its first victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University. The win marks the second straight season that DC has beaten the Beavers.
The Purple and Gold grabbed an early lead in doubles action, as the Yellow Jackets claimed victory in two out of three matches. The junior tandem of Kirsten Wieland and Catie Savage breezed their way to a comfortable 8-3 win at the one doubles position. The freshmen duo of Bethany Brown and Maria Weber equaled the one doubles team with an 8-3 victory of their own, putting the Jackets in the lead heading into singles play.
Defiance continued its strong play in singles, as the Yellow Jackets were victorious in five of the six positions. Weber, Brown and junior Danielle LaBarbera each easily won by dropping three or fewer games during their matches. Savage battled her way to a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory at number two singles and Wieland pulled out a three-set thrilling win at the one singles spot with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
The Purple and Gold are back on the courts on Friday, October 5 against Anderson. The match is a makeup from a previously scheduled match that was rained out. The match is at Anderson and will begin at 4:00 p.m.
