Short-Handed Jackets Fall in HCAC Opener to Earlham
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s tennis team opened up its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule against Earlham on Wednesday afternoon.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's tennis team opened up its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule against Earlham on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets were without their six singles and three doubles player due to injury and were forced to forfeit two of the nine matches. The Purple and Gold were defeated by a score of 7-2.
The match began with doubles play and the Jackets were unable to record a win at the one or two doubles positions. The Jackets' two doubles tandem of juniors Tasha Brown and Danielle LaBarbera played a competitive match but were unable to come up with the victory losing 8-6.
DC hung with the Quakers in singles action, as Defiance won two of the five matches. Freshman Bethany Brown won her second consecutive singles match at four singles with scores of 6-2, 6-2. At the five position, LaBarbera notched her first victory of the season winning in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
With the loss, the Purple and Gold fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Jackets are back in action on Thursday, September 13, as the squad travels to Adrian. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
