Lady Yellow Jackets Defeat Lions in Conference Opener
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s tennis team opened up its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign with an impressive 6-3 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

The Lady Yellow Jackets dominated singles play winning five out of the six matches. Wins came from sophomore Kirsten Wieland at one singles, sophomore Catie Savage at two, senior Katie Carunchia at four, sophomore Tasha Brown at five, and sophomore Danielle LaBarbera at six.
Wieland, Brown and Savage each pulled out close three set victories, while Carunchia and LaBarbera won comfortably in two.
In doubles play the Yellow Jackets won at the three doubles spot as Brown and LaBarbera teamed up for the 8-4 victory.
The win moves DC to a 1-1 total record and a 1-0 HCAC mark. The next match for the Lady Yellow Jackets is Wednesday, September 14 at Earlham at 4:00 p.m.
The home opener for Defiance is one week from today on Saturday, September 17 when they will match up against Rose-Hulman University. The match starts at 10:00 a.m. and will be played at the newly renovated Bridget-Dix Tennis Facility.
