Women’s soccer adds Jenkins to coaching staff
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team has announced the hiring of Stephen Jenkins to serve as an assistant coach beginning with the upcoming 2024 season.
Jenkins brings six years of college coaching experience to Defiance to serve alongside Isabelle Danner, who is entering her second season as the team's head coach.
"I am excited to welcome Stephen onto the coaching staff," says Coach Danner. "I know he will be a great addition not only to our team but also to the whole athletic department. Stephen has a lot of experience in college athletics and is someone who will be an integral part of what we are building in the Defiance women's soccer program."
Jenkins spent the last two seasons at Schreiner University as a women's soccer assistant coach for the NCAA Division III Mountaineers, who are located in Kerrville, Texas. During his first year with the program, Schreiner reached the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. Prior to his time in the Lonestar State, Jenkins was tabbed the head coach at Cerro Coso Community College in California after spending two years as a graduate assistant at Cal State Bakersfield.
His college coaching experience began in 2017 at Millikin University where he was a women's soccer assistant. While coaching in Decatur, Ill., he also coached soccer at Eisenhower High School. Jenkins also played four years of college soccer at NAIA Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa.
"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity Coach Danner is giving me," says Jenkins. "I already take tremendous pride in the program and I am definitely looking forward to being a part of something special here at Defiance College. I can't wait to get to work."
Jenkins, a native of Huntington, W.Va., earned his undergraduate degree in communications from Waldorf and went on to complete his master's in public administration from CSU Bakersfield.
