Defiance Held Scoreless By Spaulding

Spaulding (3-0) found the back of the net four times in the first half with their first marker coming at the 11:55 minute mark. Defiance (0-2) tallied two shots in the opening period which came off the feet of junior Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) and freshman Sarah Madaras (Kalamazoo, Mich./Parchment), but both shots were stopped by the Golden Eagle netminder.
Spaulding went on to add goals during the 17th, 35th and 37th minutes to boast a commanding 4-0 margin at halftime.
In the second half, Spaulding picked up right were they left off and wasted no time getting on the board again, this time with their fifth goal of the game just 1:55 into the period.
DC recorded a total of five shots in the half, with four being on net, including two attempts by Memmer and one each from freshmen Whitney Webb (Troy) and Miranda Herevia (Port Clinton), but none of the shots would find its way past the Spaulding goalkeeper.
The lone score by Spaulding in the half turned out to be the final point of the game, as the Eagles went on to post the 5-0 victory.
Freshmen Madi Bowman (Eaton) and Kiana Carpenter (Homesville/Triway) split time in the net for Defiance with Bowman seeing the majority of the playing time. Bowman played a total of 80:15, allowing five goals and made nine saves. Carpenter came on to play the final 9:45 and allowed no goals and had three saves.
The women will return to play on Saturday. Sept. 10 in a non-conference game against Bethany College in Bethany, W.Va. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
