TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance College women's soccer team finished its 2011 campaign with a dramatic 2-0 win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Senior Dani Chadwick scored a beautiful header with under five minutes remaining for the gamewinner.
The Yellow Jackets travelled to Rose-Hulman for its final Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon to square off against the Fightin' Engineers.
Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half, as the game remained scoreless going into the halftime break.
Despite scoring opportunities for both teams, the second half looked as if it was destined to go into overtime because neither team was able to find the goal it was desperately searching for.
With just under four minutes remaining in regulation Defiance earned a free kick in its attacking half. Freshman Lindsay Bubnick had her shot punched away by the Rose-Hulman keeper, only to be scored by a magnificent diving header from Chadwick for what would end up being the gamewinner. The goal is Chadwick's first of the season.
Chadwick's late goal gave the Jackets the confidence to move forward and net another with just seconds remaining in the match. Defiance sophomore Bibiana Parra took a nice volley from outside the box that caught a deflection and found the back of the net sealing the 2-0 victory.
The shutout marked DC's third of the year. It was also the second time in three games where the Jackets scored two goals. The win means the Yellow Jackets finished the season with a HCAC record of 3-6 and an overall record of 5-14.
