DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team dropped a tough loss to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets were coming into the game winning its previous conference match over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday by a score of 2-1, but they were unable to build off the previous victory.
During the first half, little opportunities existed for either squad. Possession was traded back and forth for much of the period and the game went into the halftime break knotted up at 0-0. Both teams were only able to muster three shots each in the first.
To begin the second half, both team's tempos picked up and more scoring threats were created. Unfortunately for DC, none found the back of the net even though it outshot Bluffton by a total of 10-8.
The match's decisive moment came in the 76th minute when Bluffton's Amanda Hunsberger netted her third goal of the season. Hunsberger's shot from the right side of the box crawled through the keeper's hands and into the goal for what turned out to be the game's only score. The loss moves the Jacket's HCAC record to 2-6.
The Lady Yellow Jackets' final game of the season is Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Hulman.
