XENIA, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Earlham College on Wednesday evening.
The Quakers wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet to open the game, as Elizabeth Richards scored in the third minute to give Earlham a 1-0 lead.
DC was unable to establish itself on offense during the first half and was only able to muster two total shots. The Jackets went into the break down 1-0.
Unfortunately for Defiance the second half began similar to the first. Earlham's Ikumi Doucette scored in the opening minutes to lengthen its lead to 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard fifteen minutes later when junior Katie Heitkamp scored her fourth goal of the season. Heitkamp's goal drew DC back to a 2-1 deficit midway through the second period. The goal gives Heitkamp the team lead in goals and points with four and nine respectively.
The Jackets' comeback bid would fall short however, as Doucette scored her second goal of the night with just under 20 minutes remaining to cement the 3-1 win for Earlham.
The loss drops Defiance's HCAC record to 1-5 and its overall record to 3-13.
The Purple and Gold's next game is on Saturday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. when it hosts Mount St. Joseph College. The game will be Senior Day and the seniors on the time will be honored at halftime of the game.
