DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team lost its second straight game in heartbreaking fashion as it fell to the nation's 12th ranked team, Transylvania University, by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The game was played under unique conditions, as both teams had to deal with wind gusts that exceeded 40 miles per hour at times. The weather did not affect DC's gameplan going into the contest, as Defiance was determined to play stout defense and suffocate the Pioneers' attacking style of play.
Defiance executed its strategy brilliantly through regulation. Despite Transylvania registering nine shots in regulation, the Jackets were never truly threatened to give up a goal.
In the game's 104th minute Transylvania found the game's golden goal with just six minutes remaining in overtime. The goal came when a Transy shot caromed off the cross bar right in front of Pioneer junior midfielder Natosha Boden who slotted past DC's keeper for the gamewinner.
The defeat moves Defiance's overall record to 3-12 and its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 1-4.
The Jackets are next in action on Wednesday, October 19 as they travel to Earlham University. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
