DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Lady Yellow Jackets' soccer team dropped another tough game on Wednesday night against a powerful Ursuline squad by a score of 2-0. The defeat drops Defiance's overall season record to 3-9.
DC entered the game trying to get some sort of attacking momentum going, and freshman Lindsay Bubnick nearly did just that in the game's opening minutes. Bubnick had a strike from deep bounce off the keeper's hands and then off the bar and out for a corner kick in the 5th minute. Unfortunately that was Defiance's best scoring opportunity of the half.
Ursuline capitalized on one of its first opportunities of the afternoon when Paige Rowan settled the ball on the right endline and slid the shot across the face of the goal and into the left side netting. The goal gave the Arrows a 1-0 advantage and was the first half's only goal.
The second half opened with neither team able to create many threatening scoring opportunities until the 71st minute when Ursuline extended its lead to a two goal advantage. The Arrows' leading goal scorer, Amanda Levaskevich saw her shot go right under a stretched out keeper's arms for her ninth goal of the year.
The two goals would be all Ursuline needed as Defiance never managed to get on the scoreboard.
The Yellow Jackets are next in action on Saturday, October 8 when they travel to Franklin College for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The game begins at 1:00 p.m.
