DC Shutout in Loss to Hanover

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance women’s soccer team dropped its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Sunday afternoon as Hanover College won by a score of 3-0.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance women's soccer team dropped its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Sunday afternoon as Hanover College won by a score of 3-0.

The contest opened up with neither team able to take control of the game. Both teams had first half scoring opportunities but no goals where to be had in the first stanza.

The Jackets' best scoring opportunity came in the 26th minute when Karly Smith placed a beautiful pass to Katie Heitkamp, whose shot was just wide of the mark.

Just over 12 minutes into the second frame the Panthers scored the first goal of the game when Erin Hancock's strike deflected off the bar and over the line to put Hanover on top 1-0.

Hancock was not finished as she scored her second goal in the 79th minute to give the Panthers a two goal lead.

Hanover went on to add another goal a minute later and won 3-0. The loss drops Defiance's HCAC record to 1-1 and its overall record to 3-7.

DC's next game is on Tuesday, October 4 at Ohio Wesleyan University. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
