Yellow Jackets face tough competition at home tri-meet
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College wrestling team faced strong competition on Saturday afternoon, hosting a tri-meet against nationally-ranked Adrian College and NCAA Division II Ashland University. Six Yellow Jackets won matches, including Cortez Bradley and Alex Smith, who each went 2-0 on the day.
Bradley won his first match at 149-lbs with a late third-period pin over Adrian's Jacob Colbart, despite trailing 6-0 early in the first period. In his second match. Bradley defeated another Bulldog, this time winning 12-6 over Brandan Kammer at 157-lbs. His two wins advance his season record to 3-2.
Smith dominated both his matches, pinning both of his opponents in the opening period. Smith picked up wins over both visiting schools. He pinned Ashland's Brock Lowery in 2:06 and record a quick 1:29 pin over Adrian's Tanner Smith to prove that he was the superior Smith. Smith improves to 3-1 on the season.
Also winning matches for the Yellow Jackets were Seth Majewski, Deontae Davis, Mason Morris, and Wes Bok. Morris defeated Ashland's Nathan William 3-2 in a match that was decided by riding time while the other three secured victories over members of the Adrain squad.
Majewski defeated Adrian's Smith 13-7 after a reversal and near-fall in the third period helped him pull away on the scoreboard. Davis suffered the first loss of his young career when he was pinned late in the third by Adrian's Michael Jacobs. However, the freshman responded by toughing out a 5-2 decision over Mitchelle Moore, also of Adrian. Bok followed up last week's three-win performance with a 46-second pin over Mason Slocum, the quickest pin by a Yellow Jacket this season.
