Women’s golfers Vance and Van Dyke honored as WGCA Academic All-Americans
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association released their 2022-23 All-American Scholar Team with a pair of Yellow Jacket golfers recognized for their academic prestige.
Defiance College sophomore Isabelle Vance (Continental, Ohio/Miller City) and freshman Cassi Van Dyke (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) were among the 1,401 collegiate golfers to achieve one of college golf's highest academic honors. Each had a GPA of 3.50 or greater, competed in at least half of the team's events (each competed in all 14) and was on the team at the conclusion of the season. For Vance, it is her second WGCA All-American Scholar Award after garnering honors as a freshman before transferring from Bluffton University.
The duo are the first Yellow Jacket women's golfers to receive the award since Dana Peterson's freshman campaign in 2020-21, who was the first to receive national academic honors in program history.
Van Dyke led the program in scoring average in 2022-23 with a 91.3 18-hole mark that included one event victory at Anderson. Vance tallied a 94.3 average for the season, third-best in the program, and closed the season with back-to-back career-best rounds of 87 and 86 at the 2023 HCAC Championships at Moose Landing.
Defiance College women's golf returns three of their top four golfers and looks to take another competitive leap forward for 2023-24.
