Women’s golf starts play at HCAC Championship in Harrison
HARRISON, Ohio – The Defiance College women’s golf team started play on Friday in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Mount St. Joseph University. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the par-73, 5,905-yard Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course.

On the opening 18 holes, Defiance totaled 407 and is in eight place among nine squads. Leading the event by a wide margin is Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with 329, followed by Transylvania University at 353.
For the Yellow Jackets, Mari Najar shot 94 and Shelby Mercer 96. In the 48-player field, Najar is in a tie for 20th place and Mercer tied for 26th.
Round two of the tournament is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with rain expected in the afternoon.
