Women's Golf Begins Season at Speiss Memorial
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's golf team opened the 2015 season with the annual Jon P. Speiss Memorial Tournament at Eagle Rock Golf Club.
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's golf team opened the 2015 season with the annual Jon P. Speiss Memorial Tournament at Eagle Rock Golf Club. The Yellow Jackets finished in seventh place with a team score of 440 strokes.
Tiffin University captured the one-day event with a championship score of 346 strokes. Cleary (Mich.) University was second at 356 strokes and Rochester (Mich.) College rounded out the top three with an 18-hole total 377 strokes.
Individually for Defiance, the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Kristin Aslanian (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) who carded a front nine score of 44 strokes and followed it up with a back nine score of 49 strokes to finish with an overall round of 93 strokes and place in a tie for ninth in the field of 40 players. Freshman Allison Barron (Ypsilanti, Mich./Heritage) finished just behind Aslanian with a round of 94 strokes (46+48=94) and was followed by junior Mallory Galloway (Marion/Ridgedale) with a score of 114 strokes (55+59=114). Rounding out the five competitors for DC was senior Katie Patchin (Farmington/Bristol Local) and sophomore Allison Behrendt (North Olmsted) who carded rounds of 139 (67+72=139) and 153 strokes (76+77=153 respectively.
The Yellow Jackets will next compete in the two-day Anderson (Ind.) University Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 5-6. The first round on Saturday is set to begin at noon at Killbuck Golf Course in Anderson, Ind.
