Westfall leads way for Lady Jackets at Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, Ind. - Senior leader Sarah Westfall led the way for the Yellow Jackets as Defiance competed in the first tournament of the season at the Anderson Invitational at Killbuck Golf Course.
Westfall shot a 98 and 87 in her two rounds to finish with a 185 for 27th place in the tournament. The Covington, Ohio native shot her best round at the Anderson Invitational and for her career at Defiance on Sunday with the 87. Her previous best round for the Purple and Gold was a 91 at the Anderson Invitational in 2011 and at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament in 2010.
The senior's 11-shot improvement on day two was a theme for the Yellow Jackets this weekend as all four golfers improved in round two.
Mallory Galloway also improved 11 strokes on day two. The freshman opened up her tournament with a 104 in round one and shot a 93 on day two for a combined round total of 197.
Kayla Uscilowski shot a 213 for the tournament with rounds of 109 and 104. The day two score for Uscilowski matched her best round from the Anderson Invitational last season and also her third best round in her three years at Defiance.
Sophomore Nicole Baseley, who did not golf last season, opened up her collegiate career with a 137 and followed it up with the biggest improvement for the Lady Jackets on day two, shooting 12 strokes better for a 125.
Since 2010, the best improvement for Defiance in a two round tournament was 13, completed twice in 2011. The Lady Jackets smashed that mark Sunday, improving by 39 strokes.
The Yellow Jackets will set their sights on the Hanover Invitational this coming weekend. The tournament will consist of two rounds, one Saturday Sept. 7 and one Sunday, Sept. 8.
