DEFIANCE, Ohio – Tara Miller turned in Defiance College's top finish for the second time in five events this fall, shooting a 95 to end in 18th place at the DC Invitational at Eagle Rock Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.
Four Yellow Jackets carded final scores within four strokes of each other, as Sarah Westfall and Kelly Beard ended with a 98 to tie for 25th and Phoenix Golnick shot a 99 to place 26th.
The top-25 performances from Miller, Westfall and Beard marked the first time in 2012 that DC placed three individuals inside the top-25 and also gave the Jackets their best team finish of the season. Defiance ended fifth among the eight teams competing in the single-round event.
Madonna claimed the team title with a 345, with Adrian (360), Ohio Northern (383), Lourdes (387) and Defiance (390) rounding out the top-five.
Adrian's Ariel Gruber won the individual championship by shooting an 83 to edge Madonna's duo of Michelle Hall and Kaitlyn Brasher by one stroke each.
Defiance will wrap up its 2012 campaign on October 13 and 14 at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Franklin, Indiana.
