Lady Golfers Open Season at Rain-Soaked Anderson Invite

ANDERSON, Ind. – The 2012 season got underway with a two-day appearance at the Anderson Invitational for the Defiance College women's golf team on Saturday and Sunday. The event was scheduled for 36 holes but shortened to 27 due to heavy rain on Sunday. DC ended in seventh with a score of 577.
Kelly Beard paced the squad with a 93 on Saturday and ended Sunday's nine holes with a team-leading total of 137 over 27 holes. Tara Miller followed Beard's 34th-place finish in 38th position with a two-day total of 143.
DePauw claimed the team crown with a 454, and was followed in the top three by St. Mary's (481) and Olivet (487).
DePauw also won the individual championship, with Paige Gooch carding a 110 to edge teammate Kelsey Smith by one stroke.
Defiance will be back in action on September 8 and 9, as it competes in the Hanover Invitational.
