Women's Golf Takes Fifth at Defiance Invitational
DEFIANCE, Ohio – An encouraging fall season continued for the young Defiance College women’s golf program on Monday afternoon, as the Yellow Jackets beat out three teams in the standings to finish fifth in the eight-team tournament at Kettenring Country Club.

Capital won the team championship by carding a 388, while Mount St. Joseph ended in second place with a 396. The next five spots were all hotly contested with Rochester (419), Heidelberg (425), Defiance (426), Indiana-East (429) and Muskingum (430) filling out third through seventh place in the standings. Muskingum rounded out the field with a team score of 444.
The individual play was equally as competitive, with Heidelberg's Heather Lentz and MSJ's Alaina Hartman each firing an 86 to finish tied atop the leaderboard after 18 holes of play. Lentz eventually claimed the medalist honor by beating Hartman on the first playoff hole.
Phoenix Golnick was DC's top finisher for the fifth-straight tournament, carding a 96 to finish in eighth place. Kelly Beard took 19th with a 107 and Jessie Marsh registered a top-25 performance by shooting a 111.
Defiance will take the rest of the week off, before traveling to Columbus, Ohio to play in the Capital Invitational on Sunday, September 26 at 1:00 pm.
