DC Women’s Golf Kicks Off 2010-2011 Athletic Season
LIMA, Ohio – The first athletics event of the 2010-2011 season at Defiance College got underway on Friday afternoon, as the women’s golf team competed in the opening round of the two-day Racer Invitational hosted by the University of Northwestern Ohio.

The young Yellow Jacket squad consisting of three sophomores and a trio of freshmen combined for a first-round tally of 420 to place fifth out of seven teams competing at the Hawthorne Hills Golf Course. Sarah Westfall paced DC in her first collegiate round, carding a 96 to end the opening 18 holes in a tie for 16th. Westfall was followed by sophomores Taylor Tuttle (103), Kelly Beard (109) and Phoenix Golnick (112), while freshman Jessie Marsh also shot a 112.
Madonna University leads the team race with a 345, while UNOH (351), Madonna 'B' (372), Urbana (377) and Defiance round out the top five. IU-East (433) sits in sixth after the first day and Lourdes College is in seventh place with a 466.
UNOH's Melissa Finch leads all individuals after shooting a 77 and is followed by Malone University's Jennifer Snyder at 79.
The final round of action at the season-opening tournament will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday.
