Women’s Golf Closes 2009 Season at HCAC Championship
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2009 campaign came to a close for the Defiance College women’s golf team with an eighth-place finish at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday at the University Club of Kentucky golf course.

Phoenix Golnick turned in DC's lowest score of the tournament to pace the Jackets. Golnick's 101 on Sunday gave the freshman a 212 for the weekend and put her in a tie for 31st as Defiance's best finish. Tara Miller followed in 34th with a 215 and Brittany Gow shot a 222 to end in 35th.
Franklin survived a second-round charge from the host Transylvania squad to claim the team crown by two shots. The Grizzlies led the field with a 676 and were followed by Transylvania (678), Rose-Hulman (730), Hanover (737), Manchester (742), Anderson (788), Mount St. Joseph (872) and Defiance (886).
TU claimed the top two individual finishes, with Megan Foley shooting a 155 to win the individual championship by seven strokes over Janca Millett.
Defiance will eye continued improvement in 2010, as it is set to return all five student-athletes from this season's squad.
