Women's Basketball defeated by no. 2 Transylvania
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The visiting nationally ranked Transylvania University Pioneers started the game on a 21-0 run and cruised to a 95-36 victory over the Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
The Pioneers have now won 50 straight games and improve to 17-0 overall and 10-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-17 overall and 0-10 in the HCAC.
TURNING POINT
Transylvania began the game on a 21-0 run and led wire-to-wire for the victory. The Pioneers knocked down six from downtown in the opening period and shot 67% from the floor during the first ten minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A jump shot by Zadria King put the Yellow Jackets on the board 5:59 into the game which stopped the run for the Pioneers. King knocked down another jumper and Karrie Smith connected on a jump shot as well for DC's six points in the opening period. Transylvania maintained the advantage and led 30-6 after one.
The Yellow Jackets were outscored 19-4 in the second quarter and trailed 49-10 at halftime. Transylvania began the second quarter on a 9-2 run. Defiance got a layup by Addy Allen and two free throws from Zadria King for their four points in the quarter. DC went scoreless for the final 6:17 of the first half and was outscored 10-0 during that time.
Transylvania continued their hot shooting in the third quarter and put up 29 points on 52 percent shooting. The Yellow Jackets also had their highest scoring quarter of the game, putting up 16 on 60 percent shooting. The Pioneers outscored the Yellow Jackets 46-26 in the second half. Transylvania's biggest lead of the game was 61 with 1:01 remaining.
